Just starting week 2

J'ai finalement pu noter quelques différences entre la Nouvelle-Zélande et le Québec!
  • La température:
"So, it's winter finally.  We've had quite a bit of rain this weekend.  Did you find that hard?
    -What rain?
-Well you know, it's raining now.
-You call that rain?  Where I come from we call that a light mist.  Plus, as we don't have to shovel rain, we actually call this kind of weather spring."
  • Le café:
Kidding!!!  Il y a un Starbucks en ville!  Hallelujah!
  • L'hôpital:
"So where will I get my pager?
    -You want a pager?
-Well, do I have to have one?
-Ah, no, don't worry about that, we have your cellphone number
    **syncope vagale**
-Cellphones are allowed in the hospital?!!
    -Of course!
-And people don't, you know, die?!
    -Well, not from cellphones anyway..."
  • La station d'essence:
"Excuse me, I have this BP card, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use it or not, is that like a credit card?
-Yeah sure.  Do you know the PIN?
    -Ah, well, no I don't.
-Well don't worry about it.  I think I know the number to this card!"
(so apparently people's PIN are common knowledge around here...)
  • Le centre d'information:
"So, do you know any used cars shops around here?
-Sure thing.  Do you have a boyfriend?
    -Uh... yeah?
    -Is he big?
-Uh...  what are we talking about here?
-Well if he's a big bloke you'll get a better price.  I can go with you if you want."
And now, pics!

Another kinda weird sunset in the southern hemisphere...

Aviary in the city park!

Home, sweet home.

Nice trek, 20 minutes from home

Over Bluff hill.  Bluff to the right, Invercargill in the far back
City water tower

Road after a light mist...

Another magnificent beach on the road to Te Anau

Lake Manapouri

Lake Te Anau... we'll be back for the Milford Track!
