Un petit peu d'hiver, tout de même...

So, delays again, apologies.  Weekends have a way of lasting only 2 days... Quite annoying.  Well alrighty, last weekend we went to Arrowtown, another cute town about 20 minutes away from Queenstown, and spent a day skiing at Coronet Peak.  Arrowtown is small, touristy, but truly beautiful.  It was originally built in 1860 following the gold rush.  The mine nearby was a source of good money.  Nowadays money comes mainly from tourists and retiring 50+.  There is still that rich feeling and fancy touch, however, such that I got to speak French in an authentic French restaurant complete with adjoining groceries store.  We sampled the cornichons, Dijon mustard, but more importantly purchased the last of their Roquefort, 42 dollars of it thanksverymuch.  Such a treat!

We had a nice time in Coronet, but the snow was minimal (or frankly absent in some places).  It was mostly icy and too crowded, but we didn't really mind because the view was so amazing.  From the top, we could see Queenstown, lake Te Anau, and the surrounding mountains and ski fields.  We had the most fun of the day at Heidi's Hut where we enjoyed bright sunshine on the deck and fantastic hot wine.  After sunset, we headed back to town where we completed the multiethnic experience with Thai food for dinner, and NZ wine by the fireplace at Blue Door (nominated best lounge bar ever by yours truly).

Until next time
S :)
